This morning as I sipped my coffee I opened up “The Pocket Thich Naht Hahn” and read the lines “Happiness means feeling you are on the right path every moment. You don’t need to arrive at the end of the path in order to be happy.” As I read these words over and over a smile came to my face. It was exactly what I needed to hear.
Life can be filled with distractions and disappointment that lead us to temporarily stray from our path. We lose sight of the fact that now, in this moment is where life is happening. It’s easy to get caught up in dwelling in the past or projecting into the future, we all do it. So maybe we practice noticing when this happens, acknowledging the dwelling and projecting and then remind ourselves that happiness is a choice. And happiness, I think, leads us back to our right path.
“Happiness is possible only when you stop running and cherish the present moment and who you are. You don’t need to be someone else; you’re a wonder already.” – Thich Nhat Hahn
