Serve Yourself Some Tea by Jennifer Williamson
You’ve stuck around this long, walking through the treacherous rain with me, pointing to the moon when I forgot to see. You’ve guided me this far. You’ve traveled very far, my dear heart. Come in. Rest. Take off your coat. Let me serve you some tea.
Pema Chodron – We Already Have Everything
We already have everything we need. There is no need for self-improvement. All these trips that we lay on ourselves – the heavy-duty fearing that we’re bad and hoping that we’re good, the identities that we so dearly cling to, the rage, the jealousy and the addictions of all kinds – never touch our basic wealth. They are like clouds that temporarily block the sun. But all the time our warmth and brilliance are right here. This is who we really are. We are one blink of an eye way from being fully awake.
Looking at ourselves this way is very different from our usual habit. From this perspective we don’t need to change: you can feel as wretched as you like, and you’re still a good candidate for enlightenment. You can feel like the world’s most hopeless basket case, but that feeling is your wealth, not something to be thrown out or improved upon.
Pema Chodron – The Noble Heart
Bodhichitta is a Sanskrit word that means “noble or awakened heart.” It is said to be present in all beings. Just as butter is inherent in milk and oil is inherent in a sesame seed, this soft spot is inherent in you and me.
It is said that in difficult times, it is only bodhichitta that heals. When inspiration has become hidden, when we feel ready to give up, this is the time when healing can be found in the tenderness of pain itself. This is the time to touch the genuine heart of bodhichitta. In the midst of loneliness, in the midst of fear, in the middle of feeling misunderstood and rejected is the heartbeat of all things, the genuine heart of sadness.
Just as a jewel that has been buried in the earth for a million years is not discolored or harmed, in the same way this noble heart is not affected by all of our kicking and screaming. The jewel can be brought out into the light at any time, and it will flow as brilliantly as if nothing had ever happened. No matter how committed we are to unkindness, selfishness, or greed, the genuine heart of bodhichitta cannot be lost. It is here in all that lives, never marred and completely whole.
We are not soldiers. Peace runs through our hearts. Wars rage on regardless, we need not take part. Life can be a struggle; a perpetual night, but the sun won’t rise quicker if we choose to fight. So let’s down our weapons and open our arms, become a safe haven of kindness and calm. Life need not be a battle where we merely survive. We wait to rest in peace; we should live while we’re alive.
There is a voice inside of me that whispers all day long. I feel that this is right for me, I know that this is wrong. No teacher, preacher, parent, friend or wise man can decide, what’s right for you – just listen to the voice that speaks inside. -Shel Silverstine
Salt Water by Brianna Wiest
I quieted my life until the only thing I could hear was the sound that blood makes in your body when you’re still enough to listen, and the tapping of rain on the windowsill, and the simmer of sage leaves as they coil. The familiar clicking of a keyboard and the steeliness of a frigid afternoon. Each of these an encryption reminding me what matters, telling me where to go.
Where you find truth is where you find your reflection, and where you find your reflection is where you find love, and where you find love is where you find light, and where you find light is where you find faith, and where you find faith is where you find purpose, and where you find purpose is where you find happiness, and where you find happiness is where you find truth, and when you find truth, truth will set you free.
Metal cooled is hardened from fires magic touch, releasing strength and beauty and traits we value much. It emerges in an instance through time and effort spent, bringing forth a power whose goal will not relent. Fire must be tempered lest it leap its bounds, to be controlled with purpose, so not to scorch the ground. But when properly channeled, despite the pain and strife, our world will now be different, for fire gives us life.
Hari Om Tat Sat – Tune into the greater intelligence that created the universe and let that intelligence inspire you in your living.
Each today well-lived makes yesterday a dream of happiness and each tomorrow a vision of hope. Look, therefore to this one day, for it alone is life
She Let Go
by, Rev, Safire Rose
Without a thought or word, she let go. She let go of the judgements. She let go of the opinions swarming around her head. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go…
No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling form a tree, she just let go.
There was no effort. There was not struggle. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was and it is just that. In the space of letting go, she let it all be.
A smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her. And the sun and the moon shone forever more.
The field is tilled before the seed is planted, the garden is weeded before the flower blooms and the self must know stillness before it can discover its true song. – The Book of Runes
When we are able to truly see our self, joy becomes our mirror image.
I am present within myself.
I can center myself with the ease of my breath.
I feel grounded, confident, worthy and whole.
Breathing in, I calm body and Mind. Breathing out I smile.
Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment.
-Thich Nhat Hanh
Change is constant. Often in our lives we may find ourselves scared or resistant to change. What if the caterpillar resisted or refused to change? What beauty and life experience it would never realize. When the winds of change blow, some build walls and others build windmills. As you move beyond your mat and into your life, consider tearing down the walls and embracing the winds of change.
Let whatever you do today be enough. Let go of the judgement you have about what you should be or could be doing and today, allow yourself to simply be. Comparing yourself and your journey may be habitual, but it gets you nowhere. It makes you feel worse and keeps you stuck. So stop fixating on where everyone else is and give your self permission to be exactly where you are. Quiet the voice telling you to do more and be more, and trust that in this moment, who you are , where you are at and what you are doing is enough. You will get to where you need to be. Until then, Breathe. Breathe and be patient with yourself and your process. You are doing the best you can, and that is all you can ask yourself. It is enough. You are enough.
My Credo of Life
by, Pat. A Fleming
Let me live within the moment. Let me feel all that I can.
Let me cherish life for all it’s worth, with everything I am.
Let me see what’s right in front of me, with vision crystal clear.
And face what’s waiting there for me, with no hesitance or fear.
May I wake each day with gratitude, for all my life may be.
And always feel that wonderment at the world surrounding me.
May I welcome any strangers with an open heart and mind.
And always stand for what is right with all the strength that I can find.
Let me forgive myself for my mistakes, while forgiving others theirs.
And never grow indifferent but always strive to care.
Let me not forget what matters in the scheme of every day,
to live each precious moment in a kind and loving way.
For this moment now is everything, nothing matters but today.
So I’ll willingly embrace it and not let it slip away.
For it passes all so quickly, and one chance is all we get.
And a life of wasted moments is a life filled with regrets.
Let it Go
Let go of the ways you thought life would unfold; the holding of plans or dreams or expectations – Let it all go. Save your strength to swim with the tide. The choice to fight what is here before you now will only result in struggle, fear and desperate attempts to flee from the very energy you long for. Let go. Let it all go and flow with the grace that washes through your days whether you receive it gently or with all of your quills raised to defend against invaders. Take this on faith: the mind may never find the explanations that it seeks, but you will move forward nonetheless. Let go, and the wave’s crest will carry you to known shores, beyond your wildest dreams or destinations. Let it all go and find the place of rest peace, and certain transformation.
Seeking just begets more seeking, an endless quest to fill the void. When I sit with the soul’s silence, seeking yields to finding. Only then can I choose to know what I know and be what I really am, openly, and without apology.
Look to this day, for yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision, but today, well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, there for, to this day. – Anskrit Proverb
For the highs and lows and moments in between, mountains and valleys and rivers and streams, for where you are now and where you will go, for “I’ve always known” and “I told you so”, for “nothing is happening” and “all has gone wrong” it is here in this journey you will learn to be strong, you will get where you’re going, landing where you belong – Morgan Harper
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk through the world and know it’s beauty all the days of your life.
Where you are is exactly where you need to be – Brett Larkin
We cannot always control what goes on outside ourselves, but we can always control what goes on within ourselves.
In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of the things not meant for you. -Buddha
Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bvantu – May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may all thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and freedom for all.
In our lives we often feel that we are not enough. Maybe it is something we do to ourselves or maybe others have told us or made us feel this way. What if we decided that the only person’s opinion that mattered is our own? What if we decided to unconditionally love ourselves, accept ourselves, forgive ourselves and trust ourselves?
The simple truth is that the choice has always been your own. I think we are hardest on ourselves. But we don’t have to be. Let yourself be enough. Allow yourself to accept yourself exactly as you are.
Immeasurable Minds – Thich Nhat Hanh
Loving kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity are described as unlimited states of mind because they continue to grow and they cannot be measured. The more you practice, the more you see your love growing and growing until there is no limit. The more you practice compassion, the more it grows. The more you cultivate joy, the more joy you will feel and be able to share. The more you understand, the more you love; the more you love, the more you understand. They are two sides of one reality. The mind of love and the mind of understanding are the same.
Right Path – Thich Nhat Hahn
Happiness means feeling you are on the right path every moment. You don’t need to arrive at the end of the path in order to be happy. The right path refers to the very concrete ways you live your life in every moment…
…Look at the tree in the front yard. The tree doesn’t seem to be doing anything. It stands there, vigorous, fresh and beautiful, and everyone profits from it. That’s the miracle of being. If a tree were less than a real tree, all of us would be in trouble. But if a tree is just a real tree, then there is hope and joy. That’s what if you can be yourself, that is already action. Action is based on nonfiction; action is being.
There are people who do a lot, but who also cause a lot of trouble. The more they try to help, the more trouble they create even if they have the best intentions. They are not peaceful, they’re not happy. It’s better not to try to so hard but just to be. Then pace and compassion are possible in every moment. On that foundation, everything you say or do can only be helpful. If you can make someone suffer less, if you can make them smile, you’ll feel rewarded and you’ll receive a lot of happiness. When you have a path and you enjoy every step on your path, you are already someone; you don’t need to become someone else…happiness is possible only when you stop running and cherish the present moment and who you are. You don’t need to be someone else; you’re already a wonder of life.
Loving Kindness Meditation – Jack Kornfield
May you be filled with loving kindness
May you be well
May you be peaceful and at ease
May you be happy
