Recently I was talking with one of my teachers about a stomach issue I had been having. She suggested that maybe it was stress and I began spilling out all of the things in my life that I was anxious about, in particular one of my children being discriminated against.
Before I could finish my story my teacher asked, “Do you think your children are absorbing your anxious energy”? This was something that hadn’t even crossed my mind.
The energy we cultivate not only affects our self, but it also affect those around us. When we are stressed, upset or angry our energy is felt and absorbed by others. Although unintentional, this can be very harmful to those around us.
I have found in my life, that many of the moments that I find myself fretting and worrying about are things that I have no control over. Does this mean that my feeling are not valid? Of course not, but I do have a choice as to how I can react to those feelings. We all have that choice.
The next time that you find yourself filled with strong emotion or harmful energy, remind yourself that these are feelings that you can let go of. It does not make them any less valid, but it does allow you the freedom to let go of all that does not serve you. In turn, our negative energy is not projected on or absorbed by those around us.
