After dropping my son off at school today I passed a nearly empty school bus with only a few children. Each child wearing a mask, gazing out the window as they sat alone. The only expression I could see was in their eyes, and they all looked sad.
Until that moment I think the busyness of back to school along with my own commitments had kept me from fully feeling the depth of my emotions surrounding this new normal for our children. But in that moment, the realization hit me and I couldn’t help but cry.
With all of the reactions driven by fear and anger during this uncertain time so many of us have lost sight of what our children are going through. How they are the pioneers of the corona school climate, dawning their masks, radiating positivity and setting an example for all of us. They are just as scared, sad, angry and frustrated as the rest of us, yet each day they get up, go to school and do the best they can.
So let’s follow the example our children have set. Radiate positivity. Be tolerant. Show compassion. Keep moving forward. Let’s do the best we can despite the fear, anger and uncertainty that is consuming our world. Let’s unite in spirit during an era of isolation.
