During the school year my daughter learns a new virtue each week. They learn not only the meaning of each virtue but also how they can incorporate it into their lives. Near the end of the school year they learned the virtue of foresight – the capacity to think today while mindful of the past and conscious of the future. Balancing the thoughts of what could be and what has been so that we can make wise choices for what is needed in the present.
Foresight is the ability to think before we act. Maybe measuring our words or trusting our seeing through our minds eye. The practice of foresight allows us to cultivate our own nature through acknowledgment of the past and trust in our intuition. When we cultivate our own nature, all else follows.
When we acknowledge and learn from past experiences and look forward with discernment, we develop the foresight to act in the present for a benefit in the future. We become the maker of our own destiny.
