“These are the times we live in”…I have been told these words twice in the last month, both in school settings.
This is a hard truth, one that makes my stomach sick and my heart ache. We live in a world where children threaten and carry out violence and schools have to create entry ways with active shooters in mind. Putting these realities into words is hard, because it makes them real. But the words I was told are true, these are the times we live in.
So what do we do now? We continue to love, show compassion and honor ourselves and each other. We measure our words and emotions. We always choose kindness over cruelty. We teach our children to be inclusive, compassionate and caring. We tell the truth. We use kind words. We let go of hate, discrimination and violence. We move forward together, united, as one.
We cannot control what is happening in the world but we can control the energy that we release into it. Join me in radiating love, unity and hope. Hope that when my children are parents these will not be the times that their children live in.
